Memphis Downs ECU, 76-56, to Advance to C-USA Championship Final

EL PASO, Texas – Memphis made a season-best 10-of-18 from long range and shot 50.9 percent for the game en route to defeating East Carolina 76-56 to advance to the Conference USA Championship game Saturday morning at 10:35 a.m. (CT).
For the second straight game, the Tigers never trailed. Will Barton drained a triple on the first Memphis possession to open the floodgates from long range as Memphis would make five triples in the half and ten in the game.
A 23-2 run the spanned the two halves proved decisive in the game as the Tigers extended the lead to as many at 29 when Barton found Will Coleman with a no-look pass for a slam dunk to put the Tigers ahead 60-31with 14:26 to play.
Joe Jackson made all three of his attempts from long range and was a perfect 5-of-5 from the charity stripe on the way to scoring a career-high 24 points off the bench to lead Memphis. Charles Carmouche went 6-of-7 from the floor and scored 19 points in a team-high 32 minutes, while Will Barton added nine points, four rebounds and three assists.
Darrius Morrow led the Pirates, who were without senior and C-USA Sixth-Man Brock Young, by scoring 25 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Morrow made 7-of-12 from the field and went 11-of-13 from the free throw line.
Jamar Abrams was the only other ECU player to score in double figures, making four triples and scoring 12 points in a game-high 38 minutes. The Pirates shot just 36 percent from the field and went 6-of-21 from beyond the arc, while committing 16 turnovers that led to 22 Memphis points.
Despite starting forward Tarik Black playing only 13 minutes due to foul trouble, the Tigers dominated inside, outrebounding ECU and scoring 30 points in the the paint.
Memphis now faces UTEP Saturday at 10:35 a.m. (CT) on CBS in the C-USA Championship game at the Don Haskins Center.
