Is it time for O.J. to go?

Blogger Chip Crain wrote this morning on (a Memphis Grizzlies blog) that it’s time for the Grizzlies to shake things up and move OJ Mayo.

It’s time to face reality. O J Mayo is unhappy on the Grizzlies team and there is nothing the franchise can do about it if winning is a priority this season.

I couldn’t agree more. OJ Mayo is one heckuva talent. Everyone has seen that through his play. But, he wants to play point guard, not a combo two/three scorer. Grizz head coach Lionel Hollins, however, doesn’t like the style of play Mayo brings at the point position.

Crain also points out the Mayo’s main problem is not wanting to play defense against shooting guards. This is evident by his body language when he enters the game and when guards continually blow by him and get to the hoop.

Memphis, which was 22-23 and just one game out of getting back to .500 going into last night’s game, lost to New Jersey  on the road, 93-88.

The Grizzlies shouldn’t lose to the Nets, ever really. Especially not with a chance to get back to .500 and plant themselves firmly in the Western Conference playoff picture. When a player is unhappy, that demeanor and attitude spreads quickly.

Last year, the Grizzlies had a chance to trade Mayo for Montae Ellis. Don’t let an opportunity like that pass again.
